Operated in conjunction with the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles, DDP educates those convicted of driving while intoxicated or impaired. The program seeks to prevent future incidents by identifying possible chemical addictions and providing early intervention services and referrals for further evaluation and/or treatment.
Course content includes traffic safety as well as social, medical, and legal problems caused by alcohol and drug abuse. All students must attend seven weekly classroom sessions, for a total of 16 contact hours. Conditional licenses are granted solely to motorists enrolled in such a program. Additionally, recent legislation mandates DDP participation for all plea bargain cases.
